Rodney Strong Invited to Girls Night for Earth Day Anniversary Toast

My girlfriends and I have a monthly ritual.  The last Friday of each month, we get together for “women and wine time.”

I look forward to it as much as date night – but for different reasons of course.

Our last wine gathering was a bit different as we met virtually, via Zoom, to adhere to the rules of social isolation.  Fortunately, that didn’t stop us from laughing and sharing stories over our favourite bottle of wine – despite some buffering, lag time and simultaneous chatting that ended in “no you go, no you!”

This month, we’ve decided to move our women and wine date up to April 22nd since it’s the 50th anniversary of Earth Day.  We’re all big lovers of our planet and do our part whenever possible to keep it safe, so this wasn’t something we would miss.  In previous years, we’ve enjoyed some cabernet by candlelight for Earth Hour.  We’re that committed!

Since it feels odd to celebrate our planet indoors, we’ve decided to move this Zoom call outdoors – but just to balconies, or our own backyards – don’t worry!

We also needed a wine fitting of this celebration.  One that’s committed to the planet of course.  Enter, Rodney Strong.  This winery hasn’t just won Wine Enthusiast’s Winery of The Year, they continually produce wines that score above 90 points and they’re also a vanguard in sustainability. Check, check and check!

I shared my recommendation with my girlfriends and they looked into it further sharing the following with me (which for the record, I already knew, but I love their commitment and it explains why they’re all so successful…it’s in the details!)

·      Rodney strong is one of the first wineries to be sustainably certified and offset their carbon footprint

·      They operate one of the largest solar panel systems of any winery in the world

·      They prevent the release of 4,498 tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere — equivalent to not driving 9,396,933 miles

·      They produce high-quality, all sustainable wines

·      They are pioneers in eco-viticulture practices, wildlife protection and water conservation

Eco-friendly and award-winning for taste?  Sold!  Rodney Strong has two amazing red wines that we plan to enjoy for Earth Day: a 2017 Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon (which is currently $3 off at the LCBO!) and a beautiful 2016 Russian River Valley Pinot Noir.  I’ve already sampled both and can tell you, they’re worth every penny.

The Cabernet Sauvignon is rich with dark cherry, plum and baking spices and the Pinot Noir has lovely aromas of red fruit, floral and earthiness with a soft silky texture.

Choose one or choose both like me as I don’t have to drive when we’re done.

It’s nice to see what can be accomplished when a winemaker puts out planet first.

Here’s to better days ahead for our planet as we raise a glass to Mother Earth and 50 years of Earth Day.

Cheers!
