CEO Loren Shifrin of Revolution Capital shares his top three tips for success during challenging times.

In the wise words of Jon Stewart: “From change, comes growth.” We’ve seen nothing but change this past two years, but the question is: have we grown?

To answer that question, some may turn to Tony Robbins while he explains that “setting goals is the first step in turning the invisible into the visible.”  But if you’re more of a realist like me, you may prefer the words from a CEO for one of Canada’s fasting growing companies, Revolution Capital.  Loren Shifrin runs a successful cash flow business, which buys company’s invoices and pays them the same day, giving them immediate access to their funds.

Seems simple.  One may assume he struggled during the pandemic like others in his industry, but Loren experienced record growth.

How?  Because he adapted and grew.

Here are Loren’s top three tips for success

1)      Prioritize People – Build Your Community:  Loren prioritized people over profit and as a result, his staff outperformed and productivity went up. That feeling of belonging and teamwork makes a difference.

2)      Adapt: Loren saw the writing on the wall before the pandemic hit and he prepared for a huge pivot. Working from home wasn’t common in the financial sector, but he adapted and made it work. So when the lockdown was announced, all 85 of his employees were up in running from their homes the next day.

3)      Reinvest: It’s common once we have a full-time job to immediately purchase something significant.  Maybe it’s a home, a car, a cottage or a boat – but Loren’s advice is to reinvest your money before spending.  Build your rainy-day fund first!  It’s your insurance policy.  Once that’s established, then you can spend.  But don’t ever live pay cheque-to-pay cheque – that’s a risky game.

Of course there is no one-size-fits-all approach for success as everyone is different, but starting with these three areas of growth is a great way to start.
